Threaded bulkheads are NOT NPT threaded?!

If I could find that stuff, I'd buy it, but I have no idea where to get it.

I bought Rectorseal 5, then read the can and it said "DO NOT USE ON ABS"

So reading their website, they said use rectorseal T+2 instead.

I don't think tape will work on non NPT threads... the fittings do not tighten, they are like a nut/bolt threading.

I've done it countless times. I've set-up literally hundreds of aquariums and used thousands of bulkheads  The trick is to use both silicone sealant AND teflon. The Teflon, just two wraps, helps hold it in place and the silicone sealant seals it. Do not over tighten it.

I have never seen that blue crap sold anywhere I have been.

I've never had a problem w Teflon. Usually I use three wraps. If its such a problem, why not get a bulkhead with slip fitting and glue a union in there instead?

Because you probably will not be able to get the bulkhead out later due to the big union on it.
:)

Personally I think threaded bulkheads are the way to go.
It is so easy to make a mistake in plumbing setup.
Pipe and normal fittings are super cheap, and a very short drive away.
Good bulkheads are not so cheap, and often mail order.

Just leave a section of pipe between bulkhead and union so u can cut out union and replace it if you need to remove bulkhead for any reason. Everything else matches up.
