Can a hammer sting an acan?

Typically you don't want corals touching each other unless they're softies, I have mushrooms growing on zoas, zoas growing against each other, I also have other softies that are leaning all over each other with no problems.

SPS & LPS different story, any LPS and specially SPS you want to keep from touching each other, they will engage in chemical and tentacle warfare.

Coral warfare does make for some awesome pics;

I agree with hifidelity for the most part. Though, some are really ok with each other between types of corals and even within the same type. It's risky to test it out if you don't want to risk losing something.

As for Torch and Hammer Coral touching, I too read that the various Euphyllia species won't sting each other so you should be good at least on that front.

I have a couple Acans near my Torch (~3-4 inches away) and haven't seen any issues. However, they're both relatively new and small so time will tell.
