Neptune Aquatics

Hi!

I was at the meeting yesterday (I was the tall chick in the purple shirt) and I've now got my account here set up, so I just thought I'd post an introduction.

I have a 20 gallon glass tank on my desk at work (I'm an engineer at Pixar) plumbed to a 30 gallon sump in the other corner of the room. I built a mahogany hood with a PC retrofit kit and a DIY skimmer, which seems to be working pretty well so far. I'm working on a custom controller and data logger now. As far as livestock, I've got a blue-green chromis, a firefish, some green star polyps, a skunk cleaner shrimp, and as of yesterday some zoanthids courtesy of Sergio and DBTC. (thanks Sergio!)

Anyway, the meeting yesterday was great... everyone was really nice, and the cephalopod presentation was excellent. I'm excited to start getting involved with this group!

Yeah, yeah, ditto what everyone else said. ;)

BTW, plumbed tank in the office sounds awesome. Reminds me of this...

Sounds like your tank needs more coral. What else are you planning to put in?

Oh now that's hot! I've thought of doing some sort of fish bridge, but how in the world would you clean that thing? It seems like it would just fill up with algae and detritus over time.

Anyway, I'm planning to get some xenia soon. I know people say it takes over, but I just can't resist the hypnotic pulsing thing. I don't have a lot of other specific plans plans for coral. I'll probably get a couple hard corals before too long, but I don't know exactly what or when. I'd like to get a clam. I'd love to have an anemone, but I'm concerned about the environmental impact of anemone collection.

Other fish I'm considering: bangaii cardinals, pajama cardinals, green banded goby, lawnmower blenny, and jawfish. Not sure which ones of those yet. I actually had a jawfish, but he died after just 4 days. :-(

I will probably get the bangaii cardinal and green banded goby next, as I know I can get those captive bred. First I've got to deal with this ich outbreak, though. :-(

Just hope that siphon doesn't break on that bridge (someone knocks the tank splashes water/evaporation, something...) otherwise big mess :D

BTW, just don't buy Xenia! As they say... membership has it's privileges, as there are plenty of members (like me) who have weeds of various corals.

Okay! I looked at various Xenia and I think I'd like to find the white Xenia Umbellata species. I'd love to get a frag of that if you or someone else has some and wouldn't mind sharing.

Also, I think "Xenia Umbellata" would make an excellent porn name. ;-)

That might be the same kind I got, but then again they almost all look alike to me, there's the silver tipped/long xenia (I don't have) and the more bushy "pom pom" xenia which is similar to what I have.

You've heard of porn porn xenia, haven't you? :D

Or maybe it's Xenia Umbrellata, Warrior Princess of Belly Buttons :D
