    Quarantine tank?

In garage I have a 30g tank hooked to a 20g sump. It sits empty most of the time and I fill it with water from DT when I need to QT stuff. I can run only the top tank with a small powerhead & HOB filter or I can run the whole system with a skimmer, reactor or chaeto in the sump.

    Blue algae ID

FYI in case you are looking for options to get rid of it, I saw multiple threads on reef2reef about using Fluconazole with great success. https://www.reef2reef.com/search/2899141/?q=Bryopsis++Fluconazole&o=relevance

    Kryptonite Candy Cane Coral

@ashburn2k I'm glad the candy cane does well for you. I also have extra frags of it, if someone wants to pick some up in San Jose - Almaden area.

    How are you measuring salinity?

+1, although the refractometer was pretty good, i love the digital milwakee meter. Much easier to use, specially since I'm getting old and can't trust my eyes anymore ;)

World's stupidest and most ridiculous tank leak!

FYI, for my pellets reactor I had a custom acrylic disc that fits smugly inside the reactor. I had it cut out at TapPlastics, then drilled with many small holes and placed inside the reactor above the pellets. It is in use for years. In the past when I was dealing with hair algae and it was...

Who needs a Coralife T5 lamp & 40G breeder sump

I have laying around a 48" 4xT5+moonlights lamp made by Coralife. I bought it used with a setup, and never needed it. It is functional, except it doesn't have the legs. With the same setup I also got a 40G breeder sump that I also didn't need. Yeah, the other person was very keen to clean his...

    Black Nylon Screws, where?

I bought white ones for a DIY reactor a while back from Grainger. You can check their site & buy it local.

Who actually runs a QT/Hospital tank?

I have a 30g tank+20g sump that I use as observation tank for all new livestock. Everything goes in there for at least 1 month before being placed in the main tank. I even qt-ed the chaeto :). Then I have a 10g tank that sits dry in the box until I need it to treat the fish. I also dip the...

What are you bringing to the Members Only Swap

I am planning to bring some chalices (bubblegum monster, miami hurricane and an unnamed purple/red chalice), ricordeas (green and red), bright green branching frogspawn, candy cane (bright green and regular green). The candy canes could be placed in the free/beginner section. Let me know if I...

My Hanna Alk meter drives me nuts. "It ramps up slow".

Yes, the instructions say to gently invert the cuvette 5 times. That's what I did. I was also careful not to have bubbles and dirt on the cuvette. I have now the reference kit. I changed the battery in the meter to a new one, then tested with the reference. The first 2 tests were low again, 70...

My Hanna Alk meter drives me nuts. "It ramps up slow".

Thanks, guys. I ordered a reference solution and a new reagent bottle - they're on the way. I'll retest the meter with the reference and then try the new reagent. I used to measure with just one cuvette, but since this meter gives me the first test numbers wrong, I had to switch to both. I made...

My Hanna Alk meter drives me nuts. "It ramps up slow".

Long story short: I had a Hanna Alk ppm meter similar to this one http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/alkalinity-colorimeter-hi755-hanna-checker-hc-marine-water.html. After less than 6 months use it broke, its internal LED would not turn on. Before that it worked really good. I contacted Hanna...

    Aquarium Concepts fire!

+1. Some time ago, one Finnex heater overheated until it made the glass casting explode into small pieces when I left it running without water by mistake. The scary part was that it only took a couple of minutes to explode after it got out of water.

    Overflow help

Yes, bean animal uses 3 holes for drain. In his case, though, the 3 holes will be in the external overflow box. Through the tank back panel he only needs 2 holes for the overflow box.

    Overflow help

Drilling the glass is not that hard if you are careful. The main things to pay attention are low speed to avoid heating the drill bit and not much pressure on glass. I drilled 5 holes an old 6ft tank years back when I setup my 125g. I used: - diamond coated glass drill bits, such as these...
