Exiting Hobby - To start: Free Tomini Tang, Biota Mandarin, Neon Dottyback, Percula Clownfish, & Banggai Cardinal | Details in post

Been at this hobby for almost 15 years and the current tank has gone sideways for the past few years. Looking to step away from the hobby for a while and want to start by getting rid of the livestock. Current fish: - ~3" Tomini Tang - ~2" Biota Mandarin (No clue if it will eat anything besides...

Eh could be pocillopora. Is it all purple? Or does the skin/polyp have a green hue?

    Very hardy sps

This. I have one in my tank and it self fragged multiple times. It's really pretty looking. But can spread.

Kasa Wifi Smart power strip as alternative to DJ power strips

Power Failure Detector with Text Message and Email Alerts https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089QQNKJL/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_88GJQY2BTCYCPFP6Z5KH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Something like that work? Didn't look hard, kind of surprised there aren't cheaper options. I use smart plugs for my skimmer and...

    Media reactors?

You generally want a pre filter to help stop the clogging. Otherwise the sponges end up just being your mechanical filtration and clog up like any other sponge/sock. I used a BRS reactor in the past. Have a TLF one now. I usually just put carbon in a bag though.

    Tank crashing slowly .. help

I don't think you will meet many people who have been in the hobby long term and not gone through similar issues. Everything you have had happen in this thread, I have had happen too. If that makes you feel better. :) Really just takes long term patience. I've been at this for about 10...

xCry0x's Red Sea Max 250 Reboot

Could you elaborate? I'd say it's normal, but normal is based on my other jebao power heads. It's the same thing. The power cord does have a suction cup on it which is nice for holding it in place to route the cord along the top of the tank. And it prevents it from tugging on, and moving, the...

xCry0x's Red Sea Max 250 Reboot

I'll also add this here. I got a jebao MLW-30 the other day and then ordered a second. Just got that one so now I'm running two of these for flow - really like them so far. Really nice broad pattern and the new wifi controller gives some more control over things. And they are dead silent with...

    Tank crashing slowly .. help

Welcome to the learning curve :) I don't actually think they eat digis? They for sure wiped out my plating montis, and spongodes. You will see the tissue die off like something is quite literally starting on one side and eating its way across. Keep an eye on the tank after lights out. What...

    Tank crashing slowly .. help

With plating montis - I always always A L W A Y S scrub the underside of new frags with a toothbrush. You want to get the eggs - which won't die from dips. I had these things decimate my tank once upon a time. And even somewhat recently, I picked up a frag from someone with a successful...

xCry0x's Red Sea Max 250 Reboot

Christmas time Hit up the live sale on Friday + ebay auctions that ended over the weekend. Targeted a bunch of budget frags and came out with a pretty good haul -- lots of stuff in the $10-15 range. SPS: - Green apple Hirsuta Montipora - WWC Bikini Navini Acro - Banana Table Acro - WWC...

    Corals on plane

Word of advice, find something written and print it out. I had this issue when traveling with a baby - the TSA people don't know all the rules, especially when you are pushing more obscure ones. So it's helpful to be able to confidently/kindly tell them the rules.

Dealing with algae in a 'small' tank.

Less taking visible dried algae on rocks and more the bacteria that would have built up when the rock was "live" and subsequently died off when the rock was dried. Stuff like Marco rock is coming in from a dry quarry and still leeching - although I think I remember saying it leeched less than...

    Tank crashing slowly .. help

Ideal vs tolerable. Ideal is that everything is consistent. That said, in not a marine biologist or ocean expert, but I'd imagine corals in the ocean get exposed to currents pushing warmer water in randomly. I've had my tank go from 76-82 in a day and nothing freaked out. Now is that ideal...

Dealing with algae in a 'small' tank.

Rock leeching nutrients isn't really a theory - it's a fact I'm the same realm as the world being round and water being wet :). It's called live rock. When it dries out, all that "live" doesn't just magically disappear; it dies. And then just like a pile of decaying anything, it turns into...

    Jebao mlw series wavemakers

Ya the lowest it lets you go is 30% on any of the different modes. Definitely a fan so far though. Does what I wanted with the broader flow without the narrow force of a normal power head. Like I've said, now I just need to fiddle with it. And ya, I remember when maxspect filled the patent...
