1 of the most gorgeous Home tanks I’ve ever seen.

Coral Essentials from ATI or the Australian comapny? What's his full name or how do I find him on FB?

Wow, unreal! That guy has some serious skills. Is there a build thread? Curious what he’s using in the set up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What brand of reef salt to buy

It is a little more effort and cost, but I've always had great success with B-Ionic Seawater in the past. My guess is most won't like the process, but if you want consistency, I don't think there is anything better.

5 Year Old RO/Di Filters - Still good?

For anyone that is interested, I was doing some research on membranes because I thought $60 for SpectraPure's 99% was ridiculous, and of course I was right :) The DOW FilmTec -...

5 Year Old RO/Di Filters - Still good?

I don't believe it is a 2:1 - That is their new premium membrane. I found the info on the FilmTec, it is rated 75GPD @ 50 PSI but claims an additional 20% uplift at 60PSI. I definitely think that the membrane is nowhere near 100% sitting so long, but certainly still usable.

5 Year Old RO/Di Filters - Still good?

The FilmTec 75GPD membrane actually came from SpectraPure for the 90GPD system. No idea how that math works out, but I'm guessing it has something to do with pressure as it is stated to operate at 90GPD @ 60PSI... The TDS is 4ppm coming from the sediment, carbon block and membrane. The TDS out...

    Where to find live rock

I agree with you - I think TBS will be who I order from and I will max out however much I can get into one box in terms of lbs, which I believe is around 50lbs. You are definitely paying for the water weight, but then again you're getting your rock with less die off and cycle time for many has...

5 Year Old RO/Di Filters - Still good?

Interesting results today on the original cartridges (Build Date: 2012): Using the HM Digital AP-1: 10 minutes run time: 0ppm TDS 60 minutes run time: 0ppm TDS 120 minutes run time: 0ppm TDS Approximate GPD @ 60PSI = 55 (Quoted at 90GPD @ 60 PSI, however, it is using a FilmTec 98% rejection...

    Where to find live rock

Do you have photos of what the rock looks like when it first arrives? So, you're saying you take live rock, and then set it out so everything "live" dies off and dry it out? What is the advantage of that when there are so many "dry" rock options without all of the freshly dead or decaying matter?

    Where to find live rock

The time period is correct but I actually bought all the live contents from a woman shutting down her tank in LA. My father and I went on one hell of a road trip and brought back the live rock and a bunch of great fish. I would have had this tank around 2000-2001. Mark Sent from my iPhone...

    Where to find live rock

What type hitchhikers are we talking about? The diversity of that rock looks amazing, but with the good comes the bad, no doubt. I've seen people post about gorilla crabs and pistol shrimp as probably the worst offenders. -Mark

    Where to find live rock

I would keep your eye out for someone shutting down their tank. Possibly less risky than something direct from TBS if the aquarium is well maintained, and you will get to cherry pick the pieces that will work for you. The other option would be to split an order with someone for TBS - their rock...

5 Year Old RO/Di Filters - Still good?

Before the membrane or directly after? When I had my previous RO/DI set up I had a drinking water attachment with bladder tank storage and Tee'd mine off after the membrane so that I had RO filtered water, but not DI water.

5 Year Old RO/Di Filters - Still good?

Not sure why that sounds odd? This is going to be purely water made for the tank, so it wouldn't impact human life. Where's the disconnect? Additionally, while the water you use is technically "cleaner" or "more pure" than your typical drinking water, DI water is generally not recommended for...

Thanks and I will let you know once the new filters arrive, but I don't have an aquarium to fill quite yet, still working on that one. -Mark

5 Year Old RO/Di Filters - Still good?

The flow out of the unit was actually very good, which surprised me to say the least. The gauge read 60PSI which is decent for being on the top of the hill in Russian Hill. There is a chance that the membrane is shot but the 2x DI resin cartridges are working their butts off and I will see some...
