    Where to buy glass?

72" x 36"(or 42") x 24" (or 22") tall; unless a better deal presents itself, I plan to build. since other plans are not materialising like so many other things,. right now I'm thinking the garage isnt that a bad option :D may need to add insulation to the garage but that should be much easier...

Using water directly from the ocean?

Nitrates and phosphates, not too concerned- some is needed anyway. Scary industrial chemicals or sunscreen which known to cause bleaching is what scares me. This will part of routine maintenance so a little bit more is ok ;) also helps with sizing the future setup

Using water directly from the ocean?

:) how long it can be stored before there is loss of quality due to any die off?

Using water directly from the ocean?

Same concerns prompted this thread; however with the type of tides and currents around the bay I would presume the water is not so contaminated if the water is collected from a place where its not relatively stagnant. the gal I talked to mentioned "several" people used this supplier and they...

Using water directly from the ocean?

Thanks Hondo for sharing and giving me one more source :D Back up plan? :) buy RODI water and mix some commercial salt, I have used many salts but settled on Instant ocean for the last two years my tank was setup. I still have a 75gpd per day RODI unit from BRS that has practically all new...

Using water directly from the ocean?

Looking for inputs from around the bay area. the dumbarton bridge area is not too far but I'd guess that water is not good for reef use. but the supplier gets it from somewhere around the half moon bay area

Using water directly from the ocean?

anyone around here using ocean water collected from around the bay area - maybe run through basic filtering like a mircon cartridge or carbon? I was talking to someone at an lfs and it came up that theres atleast 2-3 large tank owners that do this. what the person kept in their tanks was...

    Concrete or deck

Deck will be at ground level; deck goes first and then the greenhouse over it. i plan to pour footings for the greenhouse structure and construction brackets so it will stay put. Same for the foundations on which the tank will sit. Agree about using pressure treated for the substructure...

    Concrete or deck

Deck wins over a concrete slab; deck trumps for two reasons - will not get blazing hot so the feet of little ones and the grown ups will not get scorched - we are more likely/prefer to step out bare feet. Second reason almost always trumps others - looks!! we feel a deck will look much nicer and...

    Concrete or deck

We do love the tropics! I have kept a tropical garden before but water wasnt a constraint and there was sufficient natural rainfall. my wife draws the line at two kids (fish dont count as kids thankfully) but I'd love a dog! I was curious how far I can push tank temps if it was to be in a...

    Concrete or deck

Mark, all the right questions that make my pocket cringe. I would love a large sunroom however the basic costing puts it out of reach for the next 3-4 years, I think I will suffer from withdrawal symptoms if I go tankless for so long. Looking for a quick way out to get a tank running, especially...

    Concrete or deck

Outdoor? sort of. Not enough room indoors for anything over a 75g tank. So thinking of a sun room/greenhouse or something in dimensions that will keep it under the radar. I am trying to stay away from anything elaborate like plans, permits etc. I have basic understanding and experience of deck...

    Concrete or deck

quite far from actually starting a tank, there other priorities but hey priorities can be mixed up on the sly two birds one shot isn't that the saying? so whats a good base for a largish tank in the bay area? concrete slab or a deck style base? some thoughts - -- concrete slab - its solid...

    Hi!

@ Zeroinverse - I need to figure out how to use qoutes, however thats the goal - need to figure out what works best for a largish type setup. Backyard would possibly mean benefitting from solar among other things...

    Hi!

Hello again! such an awesome roadtrip; it was quite an experience especially the history side of it-- people doing the westward journey by foot and wagons when we though the journey in a cosy minivan was ummm long. It was very humbling. personal economy permitting we plan to explore more. why do...

    Hi!

Thanks for the warm welcome! looking forward to meeting more reefers in the near future. first things first I need a break from all glass boxes so we are making a stop at the Yellowstone and Grand teton parks! Once settled down everything depends on what house we end up in and what the tank...
