Reefing, reefering. Same difference to do it right.

    Cycling at warmer temperatures/cycle time?

I used to do fishless cycle with ammonium nitrate at 88-90 degrees. Worked fast. Finished in less than two weeks. I got the ammonium nitrate from instant cold packs. (Don’t mix with diesel fuel, lol.)

    Abandoning Kessil 360s

Same here. A friend gave me an old Kessil a few weeks ago. It seemed to work, so I installed it. Afterwards I noticed it would cycle off every 10 minutes or so. It didn’t look very dusty inside, but I blew it out with some canned air and a shop vac anyway. It’s been working fine since.

It’s been real:Real Talk w the BOD THANK YOU BOD!

That is how it was when DBTC originally started. That was roughly the common expectation within the club. Occasional someone worried that a person asking for a coral might be more interested in things not relating to progagating and freely sharing corals/knowledge/appreciation. So they tacked...

Not looking good: caulastraea with tissue necrosis?

Check your Mg. Lps can do that with low Mg. Candy cane doesn’t need much flow, and can get damaged by more flow when tissue is coming apart. If you can’t test and/or dose Mg, then just do some really big water changes with a known good salt.

I feel like Kaiser-Permanente ripped off my pops.

Haha. Well, my mom did well on the senior advantage plan with KP. Especially when she had a stroke, and during her last 6 years afterwards with ongoing health issues. Acute care and rehab was quality service. I was there every day and saw first hand. Having to pay for board and care(RCFE) out...

I feel like Kaiser-Permanente ripped off my pops.

My KP optometrist brother-in-law tells his patients to take the prescription to Costco for glasses. He hates seeing retired folks on fixed income pay KP prices for glasses. I tried KP optical for glasses for the first time a few years ago after leaving UC. The glasses were ok at first but the...

    Bye Handfish :(

More like collateral damage from scallop overfishing. Bottom dredging destroyed the habit. And these fish don’t go through a larval pelagic stage. Would have been cool to try breeding them.

They do best in a lagoon style tank, or at least protected from direct flow as Mike wrote.

    DBTC: Calfo Pulsing Sinularia

Yep, that‘s the one. It’s like one of the BAR O.G. corals. Anthony Calfo brought it over in a drink cup on an airplane in the pre-pre-pre-TSA days for Jim(Bookfish). I’ll keep an eye out for a frag when it makes its way over to the East Bay.

    My Jellyfish Journey

Rescuing livestock just enables and encourages them to continue their bad practices. That said, I did rescue a dog face puffer from PetCo once. My only excuse was that it was before I joined BAR. Well, and it had such a sad face.

    Gus' stash up for grabs

Tough corals for sure, having survived the tank meltdown. Save any fungia skeletons. The purple green ones are pretty amazing at sprouting back babies.
