Acropora Subulata confusion

I'd like some help in identifying what Acropora Subulata looks like. I did a search and there are contradictory pictures in the interwebs.

Here's one version

And another from DFS

In Veron, the pictures look closer to picture #1. Are my eyes just not seeing the resemblance?

I think there is a different form of lighting on in the first photo.

There indeed is... but that does not account for the difference in coralite structure ;)

Actually good points. The first pic comes from:

http://www.garretts-acropolis.com/Info_Acropora.htm

They do state that coralites are very similar to A. tenuis but a little smaller.

I looked and looked at Veron's again and it is looking more like pic #2.

It's tough being an acropora newbie. Very confusing. Can BAR put together an Acropora weekly learning series where we just talk about one species and show pictures of common names with coralite structures, color morphs, etc??

Sounds like you need to post that in the WIBGI forum... you just elected yourself to head up the committee
