Anyone have any tips on how to remove a kent steel scapper blade?

For the life of me I can't depress the plastic release button enough to get the damn thing out...its not even rusted or anything and now I am peeling plastic when I try to use a flathead screwdriver. Any tricks?

Press it into something like a corner of a counter and wedge a screwdriver between corner of blade and edge if plastic while pushing it into something that pushes the button in.

What works for me is:
Use one hand to depress the button
Hold the steel on the blade firmly with the other hand to tug/wiggle/pull the blade free. May need to use pliers if you can't get a good grip.

It's a PITA to remove a firmly-wedged blade, so after the initial struggle with it, I remove the blade every few uses to prevent it from getting stuck again. So far it's been a reliable method, knock on wood.

I like to install new blades upside down for easier removal and then cut the tab off before re-installing the "tab" side up.

Do those scrape really well without putting too much muscle into it? Worth investing in?

Yes it is! (Not)Especially when you consider the time involved in changing blades!
