    I am starting to program my RKL for a new build and wanted to get some opinions about setting up the ATO. I have a Tunze nano, and am planning on hooking up the power to my PC4 and setting it up as a lighting function with power only between the hours of 6 am and 8 pm. That way if there is an issue, it will not occur during our sleep.

    Or is this a dumb idea?

    That should be ok.

    You'll have a tiny salinity drop at 6am and a small slow raise from 8pm -> 6am.

    I figure there wont too much evaporation during the evening hours...

    Not sure if reef keeper let's you add floats but just add a float and have that as your failsafe to the tunze. Power tunze socket off if water level reaches line.

    Is that the most frequent ATO failure mode? I was more concerned about the water outlet getting detached and spilling water in the floor

    Usually the the output would be clamped tightly to the tank/sump. The biggest concern I think is ATO stuck ON and flood the tank with fresh water -> drop salinity -> everything die.
