Agreed, I wanted to avoid drilling as much as possible.

I actually drilled 1/2" holes in probably 12 different rocks for my new build and didn't find it too bad. I think it's easier though when you are drilling pretty large rocks, otherwise you end up breaking small ones up into rubble. I used a long masonry bit that I bought at HD. I found it also helps if the rocks have been soaking for awhile.
