I got an used Vortex diatom filter. Anybody know if i can just use chainsaw oil (I have it handy) to lubricate its motor as opposed to buying vortex genuine diatom filter oil?

Please don't use chainsaw oil.

You can use sewing machine oil (make sure its stainless aka lily white) instead.

Ok. I do own a sewing machine (embarassed), but no sewing machine oil. I will just go buy diatom filter oil then.

It's funny you say you're embarrassed for owning a sewing machine. I just used mine last night to sew part of a costume for my wife. Out of the two of us, I'm the only one that knows how to use it.
