I’ve seen some Huuuuuge ones in my overflows before. I can imagine how that would happen if you pulled the stand pipe out and a bunch got sucked into the bulkhead all at once.

I don't get the impression that's how they got there
I think there was a "u" in the drain plumbing: a wonderful environment for such monsters

I had a black brittle star that was easily 16 inches across that would always find it's way into an overflow, thought it was gone for years then I started poking at the hole because water was going kind of slow through it and nearly jumped out of my shoes...

seriously I hate those things, they look like evil incarnate.

In my old tank, there was one the thickness of my pinky, it must have been close to a foot long.

I can't imagine those guys in an active overflow. Some people have backup overflow pipes, maybe they lived in there? I mean, how can they even withstand the flow?
