Foam Pad needed for tank?

I just got a 40 gallon tank and am wondering what people's thoughts are on the need for a foam pad under it. The stand is well made and the top is flat, and the tank has a small frame on the bottom. The tank was made by Miracles so it should be well-constructed. I'd inclined to pass on the foam pad but wanted to check here to see if anyone thought going w/o foam pad is a bad idea.

Acrylic there are plus's and minus's to foam
- foam itself can cause the tank to bow more (the foam will still have some give). I know people that have used styrofoam under their tank only to take it out because their tank started to bow. When they remove the styrofoam the tank no longer bows as much.
- if the bottom is a nice flat piece of supported wood I would opt for no foam.
