Help Drilling Holes?

So I'm down to either a 55 gallon or 65 gallon tank. The 44 gallon is 48x13x21 and the 65 is 36x18x25. I've read the tall tanks are not advised since it's hard to get down to the bottom. I think I also want to drill holes for the overflow and sump filtration.

Any experts out there? All the youtube videos make it look pretty easy.

Are there recommended overflow boxes, skimmers, etc? I have no idea how to set all this up.

This will be fish only for a spell, then when I get a tad more confident (pay off all the $$ for the tank) I want to do reef tanking.

Have you considered a 60?
Generally 48x15x18
I always thought that was a sweet spot for mid size tanks.
I think Truvu sells a "60R".

+1 on getting it reef ready with overflows to start with.

If you think you might want to go reef, make sure to get a decent sump and skimmer.

If cost is an issue, higher quality used equipment is a LOT better than cheap new equipment.
