Help with Coral ID

Hi Guys

I just inherit this coral from a fellow reefer. He does not have any idea of what kind it is. Can you guys help me to identify it.

I would call that a colt coral from looking at the pic, but it's hard to tell exactly. Is it slimy or rough to the touch?

when it is not extended looks like a rock. it is rough to the touch. Not a colt coral for sure.

Maybe a huge kenya tree coral? What are the dimensions?

it is like about 4 inches wide and 6-8 inches long. I will bring a better picture to the November meeting

If it's rough to the touch I would say it's very likely a Capnella. Commonly called Kenya Tree, but what makes you think that's not the ID?

Litophyton corals are also called Kenya Tree corals, at least locally not in the books I have, and the one that floats around frequently in the club is imo a Litophyton, but you could have gotten your hands on a Capnella version which should tend to be more bushy and less spiky than the Litophyton you might be familiar with.

Just my opinion, and I haven't seen it in person. The description of a rough texture is what leads me to think it's from the family Neptheidae.
