How do I drill electrical conduit?

Tried drilling the conduit yesterday to hang my pendants but the damn drill just keeps slipping to the side. Whats the best way to do this and what kind of drill bit is best?

I'd be interested in advice people for this, too!

When I was drilling EMT, I made small pilot holes first (IIRC, around 3/64") to use as guide holes, so that the larger bit doesn't slip.

It is a PITA.
Best to use a punch or a big nail to make a dimple in the conduit.
Secure the conduit with a vice and drill away.
Use oil to help the bit stay cool and clean.

a punch or a phillips screw driver works best to make a dimple. the drill where the dimple it. might be easier to drill a smaller hole before you drill the right size hole.

Thank you guys, I used a nail and a hammer to make a dimple and then drilled. worked like a charm. But you weren't kidding John...it was a PITA! Took multiple hits before I was able to make a dimple. I never realized how strong that stuff is. Got updated pics in my tank journal.

Little late for the input but for future reference, use a nail set, it leaves a nice round mark then self-drilling screws do the job.
