Sharing some of my RAP 2018 experience for those who didn’t make it down:

First, some of the conference swag:

I was excited to get samples of an all-in-one alk/Ca/trace supplement (calcium formate). I will try this out on my quarantine tank where I would be hesitant to setup more than one doser.

I spoke with Lou Ekus at Tropic Marin about the possibility of giving a videoconference talk to BAR about reef chemistry. We could build an event such as potluck or pizza at someone’s house around it.

Dr Tim’s gave out a fish food powder that you mix with boiling water, then freeze in a cube tray (which they sell separately). You can add whatever other supplements you want to make DIY frozen food.

Kessil announced their new Tuna Blue + RGB puck, A360X. It’s “X” because it comes as a “W” wide angle source, but you can buy an accessory lens to convert it to “N” narrow.

Although the configurability is a plus, the A360X will cost about $100 more than the A360W/N and the narrow conversion lens is additional.

And corals - I didn’t go there for the LPS but they made for the best photos.

Go to SoCal and come back with something called burning banana... to be fair I'd expect that more from a return trip from Vegas.

    There be alienz!!!

    alienz.jpg

Went to Daikokuya for ramen last night before heading back up north. While waiting in line, one of the waittress came running out and we saw this in the sky. Didn't know what it was at the time, but one of the most mesmerizing things that I've seen in a long time.

I think that is more than you brought back from MACNA.!

As for your alien pic.....to me it looks like 2 spotlights (helicoptor?) flying over a fire at night, but can't explain all the black space around it.

So what’s the benefit of the 360X over the current 360W? Is it $100 more just for the new form factor?

IIRC, it's supposed to be 25% brighter.

They told me 20% brighter and a larger spread pattern, but remember they said that the upgrade to the AP700 was also 20% brighter. Also there's a new controller for them that has more functionality. My thought on both of those is -- umm,,, great. One of the reasons we buy Kessil's is they require no "functionality" since the color mix is optomized at all brightness and color settings for color growth. Also -- no one runs their Kessils on 100% so do we need 20% brighter that we won't access anyway. One last change is the size of the light. The casing is much thinner and more of a Tuna can look than a Soup can look. I

I was going to pick up one of those frag containers but remembered halfway home. Does anyone know where I can get one?[IMG]
