Snorkeling tips in the Yucatan?

I'm planning on spending a couple of weeks in the Yucatan (South of Cancun). Since the Boys are small, we are going to concentrate on snorkeling.

If anyone has favorite places to recommend I'd appreciate hearing about them.

We're planning on using Akumal as our home base. It seems to have been spared the worst of Wilma.

Regards,

Roy

For snorkeling go to El Grand Cenote, a little ways down the road away from the coast towards Coba. Fantastic!

Other than that, I haven't done much snorkeling on the mainland. A ferry boat ride to Cozomel (sp) may be worth your while, but I don't know how they did with the storms.

Thanks for the tip.

From what I heard, Cozumel was trashed; but, recovering quickly. I thought I would take a day trip over there to check it out. I heard several hotels are closed for repairs.

It seems that Cancun/Isla Mujeres got the worst of it.

The best up to date info I can find is on this site www.logogringo.com
People who are down there (or just returned) are updating what's going on just about every day.

It took awhile to assemble it; but, everyone now has all their gear. If my wife likes it, perhaps we'll even take an intro to SCUBA resort course down there and later get properly certified back here.

Thanks again,

Roy
