Substrate for Pistol Shrimp/Goby Pair

Trying to do some research on the a substrate that works for a pistol shrimp. About 4" of variable sized sand is what I am seeing. I don't see the perfect out of the box solution, but for my 30"x12" 29G, I am thinking about 15lbs of CaribSea SEAFLOR Super Reef mixed with 30lbs of CaribSea SEAFLOR™ Special Grade Reef Sand. From the website it looks like the Super Reef is fine by itself, but on Amazon someone said it was more coarse than spec.

I want dry sand because I am adding it to an bare bottom tank with fish in it and I don't want to risk an ammonia spike.

Any ideas?

I just use the regular grade 3 sand that Neptune sells. My pistol shrimp loves it! He is constantly working on the goby's and his burrow. I also threw in some rubble pieces that Neptune sells as Calcium reactor media.

Also, since you are adding it to an established tank be sure to rinse the sand well!
