Table saw with masonary blade to cut dry rocks?

Anybody was successful doing it? Things to watch for?

I already have the table saw and masonary blade should be a lot cheaoer than diamond coated band saw setup.

I'd like to work on the few beautiful rocks Roostertech gave ne as gift.
 
Well, cover your eyes, goggles preferred. If rock is "live" be aware that it has bacteria so wear gloves. Try a well ventilated area and use a mask if tends to dust a lot.
A wet tile saw would be a much better option I think but the reefing budget is for colorful and expensive stuff that is directly related to the fish tank.
Post some images as you go, I'm sure we will find the useful.
 
Masonary blade? Hmm never did that with a table saw. A couple of those rocks you saw the other day I used a tile saw on (wet), made good cuts only problem is the blade isn't very large (I mean it's supposed to cut tile which is 1/4" thick at most usually) so any large cuts are a be problematic.
 
Thinking more, it could pretty easily destroy your table saw.

That dust will be highly abrasive, not like normal wood.
Your table saw motor is not sealed. It pulls air through for cleaning.
I think the dust will get in there and possible ruin it.

And yes +100 on safety. Do not breathe that dust.

When I sand rocks, to flatten it a bit, I do it wet. Makes a mess, but no dust.
But you cannot do it wet on a table saw, since that wet dust will get everywhere also.

Rent a tile saw.
 
I have a big wet brick and tile saw... I use to cut 24" tiles
Will fit bricks but not sure about more then 4" thick that can be tricky.
