I'm copy pasting our swap announcement on other reef club websites and a couple of them don't read our code, even drupal forums WTH? Just curious as it looks like I'll have to amend the post so it works on other sites which I'm not too stoked on doing.

The tags that are used for that stuff aren't standardized, so sites are all different in what tags they support and how they're displayed.

realistically, you just need two code versions. BBC and HTML

If you want, I can generate the two coded posts for you and you can post whatever works :)

Even with BBC and HTML, different sites support different sets of tags.

If I were doing it I would probably either make a plain text version with no tags in it or make a very short post with a link back to our site.

I usually post the whole post in Word or some other program that has the "replace all" function.
