wild sps colonies/maricultured sps colonies

I was thinking about picking a couple of these up over the next couple weeks to really start stocking my tank.
Being that these colonies come from the ocean, how readily do they adapt to aquarium life? Are they super sensitive to the move from one ocean to another (our tanks)?

Also, I noticed many of them come mounted on relatively large, and thick disks. I find the disks to be a little unsightly. Is there any way, tips, or tricks to making these disks as discreet as possible? Is there a quick and easy way to adhere the disks/colonies to the rock work? I find epoxy to not work so well when it is cured underwater (works great in a dry on dry fashion out of water though)
thanks

Some can be super sensitive and some can transition fine. Any reason you are looking into wild as opposed to captive propped?

They are indeed sensitive to acclimation. Another thing is they can harbor parasites and other nasties so be sure to QT/dip them. If they have bases, remove them from the base. Many parasites and nasties tend to hide out there or lay eggs there.

Many do OK as the dealers tend to act as a filter for bad ones

I've never had that great luck with the color holding on these. They usually brown out a bit on me...

I've had the opposite experience for the most part, probably due to how picky I am about corals when I buy them :) Knowing your source helps immensely.

I guess I'll think twice about going for mini-colonies :)
Gresham-
I considered detaching the colony from the base [this is going to be weird], but I've always had a hard time super gluing/epoxying large pieces of coral to rocks -the trouble comes as I cannot keep the large coral from tipping over before the epoxy/super glue really sets. Even once I get it mounted, and placed into the tank, many times it falls over in the near future :(

Tony-
Captive propagated corals would be awesome, but I don't know who in SF carries decent sized aqua-cultured mini-colonies. Also, I'd imagine they'd cost a significant amount more than wild or mariculture colonies. That said, I don't want to order online because I'd be broke (not literally, but you get the point) after doing so.

I always lose some color and many times they morph into different colors.

It's all in the selection :) Don't hit a Casino any time soon :p

I think its a hit or miss.. I like when LFS don't have proper lighting and they brown out. Then its a like a grab bag for me. Sometimes I get burnt with the regular green base or brown with green polyps. But when you do find something that colors up it makes you want to look for more.
