I also saw a two part series streaming on Netflix last week. It showed some large non photosynthetic coral reefs in cold water, and a new to me methane fed bacterial food chain. 'The Blue Planet, The Deep'.

The methane food chain used to be an inside joke with a friend and I. Pretty cool area, no pun intended.
