I'm starting this thread to help people pack up their frags to survive the abuse of being chucked around during a swap environment. Feel free to add any tips or techniques that you use to ensure that your babies make the journey into a new environment Wink
I generally use two different packing techniques, one is a pack with a plastic buffer, and one with a fixed placement that I use mostly with SPS.
Step 1
get yer crap together

Step 2 with plastic buffer, loosely place frag in a chunk of plastic bag in container

Step 3 fill with tank water

Now on to the fixed placement technique-
Step 1 apply a dap of IC gel (or any super glue gel) to the bottom of the container (preferably wet)

Step 3 place frag onto the blob of IC goo, make sure the frag plug, or under side of the frag are wet/moist

Step 4 fill with tank water

The plastic technique works the best for general fragging, if you're packing up something really small, or delicate the IC technique works real well as long as the recipient does not chuck the frag around or try doing inverted container tolerance experiments.
Also, I like to tape the lid down, and place a piece of tape over the label. Unlabeled frags and poorly packed frags will require you to repack and label your frags before you can start swapping, you might as well do it right at home to save the trouble at the swap, or the potential of being bumped into the final picking group because you are not ready.
Happy fragging ;D
BTW, this is not the be all and end all, there are many ways to RTN an Acro (skin a cat) and I hope to hear some more ways of going about that Laughing out loud

For frags on plugs, I use styrofoam.
I fill the container 4/5 with tank water. Then get a 2" x 2" piece of styrofoam and press base of plug into center of styro block. Place upside down in container and snap top in place. The water holds the styro in place and the container top keeps the frag in water.
This works great for sensitive frags, even if they are likely to get banged around. But, as Gresham noted long ago it is not good for shipping since the container may be flipped upside down exposing the frag to air.
Sorry, I suck and don't have pretty pictures like Jeremy. Hopefully you get the idea.
works well with coral cradels since they have small bases (can adapt to other plugs too), but you can float your frags upside down too

Nice Tony! That looks like an Ian pack to me
. That works well in a deli container also.
Ok how about some tips for unmounted frags? Wayland's infamous chaeto cushing system?? (which btw I scored a couple killer pieces from him!)
For unmounted frags the plastic scrap method works great!
Wouldn't Tony's example need to be repacked before someone could be in the swap? Not trying to be an ass but I thought there was a no bags rule.............
I think he was just using the picture he had for purposes of that they looked like floating.
+1....
the LFS in NC all seemed to pack the corals floating the same way when you purchased from them. First time I've seen it out here.
Excellent tips Jeremy.
