I don't remeber what site I bout it from but that is about the right price. You can do a google search for 1P3816 5100K and it will give you multiple sites that hav it for sale.

Are these available at Lowes, HD, or other local shop?

I need a replacement bulb - so figured that I'd get something better than what I currently have.

I actually just picked these up at Home Depot for $8. Going to give it a try, will let you know how it goes. I didn't want to wait to order online.

I use a 6500 PAR38 CFL daylight bulb from lowes.

I was looking at these LED grow lights. Not sure how well it works but the manufacturer says it only produces light that plants use. Dont know how appealing it is to look into a red refugium but seems interesting. There are also regular led bulbs whick look like it can be used for fuge lighting.

I used those, but one that was sold for saltwater aquarium. Got it from ebay.

Are you use just using the straight CFL or using the spotlight ones...I am using a standard right now, and it does not put that much light into the tank - I think the spotlight is relatively important...unless you have the other bulbs installed into a reclector.

Melly Mel ... that's what I was thinking, if the Red is good for Algae growth? You LED bulbs look pretty cool though, and good price too. They have the 6500k version too. On melevsreef, he started with 6500k, but switched to 5100k. If 5100k is better growth than 6500k, then maybe more red is better?

For horticulture, I'm not sure, but something like different color lights for different stages for plants growth, budding, flowering. Don't know which color to which.

kvosstra ... if just using floodlight bulbs, no reflector is really need. If using straight CFL, reflector is better. I bought an 8" reflector, but VietNR1 uses a 5". The 8" may have too large a spread, but here is a picture. This is a 55 gallon sump.

Just thought I'd update... the Chaeto did grow, so this bulb does work.
