field dies off rapidly with distance. Crate it in a 2ft box. You can also "shield" a majority of the field.

IIRC, the force from a dipole magnet drops off as an inverse-cube relation when the distance from the magnet is "large" compared to the distance between the dipoles. So basically put it won't magically jump up and connect onto the wall of a truck from a foot away, most likely the package it as such in fact.
