    pH probe calibration problem

I did soak it in acetic acid (5%) for a bit before re-calibrating it second time, but no change. Never heard of using soap. can you provide justification for soap vs just vinegar and RO water?

    pH probe calibration problem

Im in the Oakland hills. The pH probe i am using was purchased at the end of Feb this year. I realize that pH drift may occur, but it was just shocking that before the calibration yesterday the pH was in the 8.3-8.4 range, and after calibration, it dropped to 7.7, with red sea pH test reading...

    pH probe calibration problem

Also decided to just go for it and order Thermo Fisher calibration buffer. Stupid expensive, better be worth it. If the probe is dying again that'll mean its only lasted ~6 months.

    Magnetic Stirrer for Water Testing

Thinking back to my college days (and seeing how the researchers work at my job) i think the stirring motion would be the best as it dissipates the titrant completely in the vial. We even used stir plates when studying acid/base chemistry for the titration experiments.

    130g custom build

It's been a while since I've posted anything, but there have been lots of good changes recently. I'll be posting a new video tonight, but in the meantime here's a video from mid march. Unfortunately (and i kind of expected this) the two leopard wrasses didn't make it too long in the tank...

    Magnetic Stirrer for Water Testing

I'm seriously considering making one. From what i've seen on youtube it's not too hard using a computer fan, magnets and a potentiometer. Im definitely interested in using it for AcroPower automatic dosing, and its a potential cheap solution to ad a stirrer to a Kalk container. Here's one...

    Thinking of changing salt brands

So I've been using Salinity as my salt of choice since starting in this hobby several years ago. With the set-up of my new tank this year i've been unsatisfied with the consistency of the salt batches and the persistent low Alk in freshly mixed salt. As a result of this I'm reaching out...

My snail has snails. Friends or foe?

So I spoke to my friend Matt of the former Aqua exotic and he said those are parasites that don't kill but irritate the snails. He suggested just prying them off.

What's this brown stringy snot all over my rocks

Oh, also, after two cycles of chemiclean, its MUCH MUCH better, but there is still some remaining. Im thinking ill give the tank a 3rd round of chemiclean and possibly do some trials with Peroxide dosing.

What's this brown stringy snot all over my rocks

I thought it was but they dont have the typicall integral air bubbles like dino has. I was thinking maybe diatoms resulting from the tank move? When i moved the tank i added some "new" cured and soaked rock that started as dry marco rock.
