Check This Out- My Virtual Tank Tour On uSTREAM

Check this out,

Here is a link to my broadcast " Joel's 100 gallon Reef Tank." I need to tweak the light a bit and get closer to the tank, but this is a very good 1st attempt to run it 24/7. This way, I can check in on my system in real time with no delay anywhere I can get a internet connection.

I know some of you will be all over this. Let me know if you need help getting set up. It took me about 5 hours to get it dialed in (software conflicts), but now I can probably do it in 5 minutes.

Here's my link http://www.ustream.tv/channel/joel-s-humble-100

As long as my broadcast is online you'll be able to watch live. Otherwise, please check back and feel free to alert me via PM if my broadcast is offline, so I can correct the matter.

Since I'm on a Mac there isn't a HD Flash Media software version out for it yet. Those of you on Windows will get much better Res on their broadcasts....

Please continue this topic by adding your aquarium's Virtual Tank Tour link to this thread.

There is a reason I'll never have a webcam of my tank from that perspective.. I sometimes check out my fish/coral after getting out of the shower ;)

I want to try this but with a submersible cam, http://geektechnique.org/projectlab/694/how-to-make-a-cheap-submersible-webcam but maybe with some safer materials this guy is crazy.

to find and configure the free software driver I needed to let my PS3 web cam stream on this site.

There is a webcam for a PS3?
YES.

It's called Eye Camera.

Here is the link. I bought mine on Amazon. I buy everything on Amazon....

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-Eye/dp/B000VTQ3LU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1265578317&sr=8-1

It has good resolution too.

Product Features

A sophisticated microphone with the ability to reduce background noise and focus on spoken word for smoother, more accurate speech recognition
Faster frame rate for improved tracking, responsiveness and smoothness
Two position zoom lens for close-up and full body options
Free EyeCreate editing software, which allows users to save, edit and add cool visual effects to photos, video and audio clips
4 channel audio input - 16-bits/channel, 48kHz, SNR 90db

Here is the link for the Driver to connect your tank to uStream (if you use a Apple computer) I'm positive there is a driver for Eye Camera using Windows too; and should not be difficult to find doing a search.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/webcam-osx/files/

It's the first file highlighted in green.

Now go watch the Super Bowl... ;)

Dude,

That's too cool.

I like his low tech weight. You'd think he could find a fishing weight, but uses a Master lock as a weight. I guess he wont have to add iron to keep his plants healthy... ;).

That gives me an idea. This hobby is taking me to the brink of my imagination.

Thanks for the cool link.... H)

Good resolution too. I might try that, but for now, I like the way I'm set up. I have an underwater housing for diving that I could use if I wanted to try this, but I don't want to show off or have a close up of my dirty sand bed.

I knew someone or persons would say that. H)

You did not disappoint. :O

Kudos you guys. ;)

I had to remember to turn the audio off too.

Since I'm going to be primarily streaming while away from home, I don't think I'll get into any trouble. I will have the opportunity to see what my house / pet sitter is doing, which may prove to be more interesting than me in my b-day suit.

I just finished ordering a better webcam than my PS3 Eye. The new Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF. It has Carl Zeiss Optics, HD 720p, auto focus , fast 30fps and 2.0MP x 1200 pixels. Should be here by Wednesday.

Here's the link:

Thanks for landing on my thread and for commenting too.

Please PM :mail: me if you see anyone breaking into our home :davie: ,or if you see it burning down  .

Very nice. I love web cams but I'm just not smart enough to use them :)

I find that very surprising. :~ Your camera skills are excellent.

At first, I felt the same way. :shy:

I learned about this site yesterday afternoon, and it too me approximately 5 hours :tired: to find and configure the free software driver I needed to let my PS3 web cam stream on this site. I had to be patient. It wasn't until I found a teenager's video 0:) on how to configure the free software on uStream that I got it dialed in and was streaming within 5 minutes. H)

I'm certain I can show you how to make it work in under 10 minutes. Feel free to take me up on it some time. ;)

Thanks for landing on my thread and for commenting too.

BTW Congrats on the Reef Central event. I couldn't find the actual thread for the link, but my guess is RC gave you a TOTM page? Maybe you can post a link to your thread, because I sifted through 100 new posts on your journal page yesterday, and I couldn't tell exactly what what going on; just that you had an amazing 100 posts congratulating you for something that looked like TOTM.

KIT,

Joel

Hey Joel, just you wait until I check up on your tank, I'm gonna dress up like you and...................

I'd like to see that.... :glasses:

So, what do you think? :quest:

It's a good idea, especially if I get to.........

Thank you. I'll look forward to seeing you stream ..., so call me when you're over so I can watch you.... Now go watch the Super Bowl, my nachos are getting cold. :( You're still invited over.

Looks like best time for viewing is when only the T5 light is on between 9-10AM and again between 10-11PM PST. There appears to be less glare and deeper color saturation. You can see the large desdra clam and the other nice corals.

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/joel-s-humble-100/v2

If anyone has any suggestions on how to filter the MHs so I can get this kind of saturation please advise.

Hooked up the Logitech Orbit AF today. Only problem is their software doesn't run on Apple's OS. It may be time for me to partition my computer and run Windows on it. The colors and defitionion is better then the PS3 Eye. This Logitech Orbit AF has 2 MPs with 720P HD.

Thx,
Joel

Updated 02/26/10

I just installed the new UStream Producer software and it has improved the real time image quality.

While the HD Flash media plug-in is still not available for OSX, my HD web cam and the current SD UStream software for Apple's is providing better resolution than the previous version I was running earlier this month.

You can see for yourself... :glasses:
