How to test r/o water

How do you test r/o water to know if your filter is doing a good job? Do you measure tds (total dissolved solids) in ppmparts per million before and after? How many ppm is good to have left?

Should read zero TDS on the output. When mine reads anything I know it's time to change my DI.

Question is, are you running a DI? IF not what i said does not apply as you will NOT get 0 TDS from RO alone in our area.

Get a TDS meter. 0ppm is what you want. I get 1ppm at my RO and 0pm after my DI.
Only *if* he has DI. If no DI, 0 TDS is not going to happen :D

It depends on the source water. You may never be able to get down to 1ppm with just RO.

Either your source water has really low TDS to start with or you're getting a false reading as RO can not filter everything out. Your source must be low in silica ;)
