Mavericks!!! What I did while everyone was at the Swap:)

Today is one of the first days I felt at a disadvantage with a full frame camera :( I really miss the extra 50 percent reach that a Crop Sensor camera gave me.. My 300 is no longer long enough :(

Got an invite from a friend whose boat I previously worked on.. I've never shot surfing before so didn't know what to expect.. Mavericks in itself was impressive ... HUGE waves...

Conditions were nice, sunny, minimal cloud cover.... It is tough shooting from a boat thats rocking back and forward.. I started with my monopod and ended up putting it away and just handholding..

At the dock in the morning I saw more huge glass than I've ever seen.. At any one time you could count 5-6 600's and 30-40 300 and 400's ... Canons far outnumbered the Nikons..

The boat I went on was packed so I opted to shoot from the roof.. The benefit of being a previous crew member :D :D

Off to the Samples...

crazy. a few look a bit fake. especially the second. still hundred times better than my cameral or skills for that matter. LOL yo where you been doug ? i haven't seen your arse in ages

I had to recheck my eyes a couple of times.. A couple of the dudes were red like lobsters hahahah.. What up Chris!??!?! Just working like crazy with an occasional photo outing thrown in there...

Wassup Eric.. I really need a 400 2.8 with the tc I'd have 560 f4 which would have been just about perfect.. There was almost too much light hahaha
A couple of the shots were 420 f5.6 1/8000 hahahahah.. It depended on where in the wave they were.. It would fluctuate all the way down to 1/1600at times....

hahah I never thought that glass could be too fast hahahah.. so for the 300 I'd have to buy 52mm filters and put them onto the rear holder?
