Using Biocube 29 as sump?

Starting to finally work on my 50G cube build...

I have a few biocube 29s laying around and thinking about turning one into a sump.

At first i was going to run it stock with the drain dumping into the return area so the water flows the opposite way of how the AIO would normally run. Then i thought to rip the backwall away to convert into a standard sump.

Too crazy?

My other hesitation is with the dimensions, i would need to build the stand much wider than the DT to account for room to slot the biocube below given that i am using 2x4s. So at least 6" wider

Hoping someone will talk sense into me...

Was really hoping to go cheap on the build... lol. Free tank but $160 to polish, and $140 for sump plus stand material... just couldn't bring myself to make the stand 7" wider all around just so i can slot in a biocube...
