Remove mushroom UPDATE: KEEP THEM ALIVE

I use the older version of these coral pruners to cut just under the foot into the rock as best I can. It’s a lot of work, and sometimes you cut the mushroom by accident. But after some practice it’s easier and more successful. I’ve collected hundreds of mushrooms this way. If you do it a couple...

    Temperature Survey

77.5-78.0 F No particularly fancy reason, just that that’s the typical tropical ocean temperature. I’ve had my set point be a degree cooler and also a degree warmer over the years, with no ill effects. I use fans to keep it from getting warmer than 78.5 F. I think stability is more important...

    FYI trident service backlog

I’m bummed to hear Neptune service isn’t what it used to be, that was always their main selling point in my experience

    FYI trident service backlog

No, BRS doesn’t exist as an independent company anymore. The same company that bought BRS also bought Neptune Systems. And Ecotech. And AquaIllumination. And they just got the distribution rights for Reef Factory. All owned by Aperture Pet and Life now, which is just a friendlier sounding...

    Salinity survey

Yes within the range of 34.5-35.5 PSU lol I’m not sure what you mean by “whatever they get”- Do you mean you don’t check salinity in your tank or new salt water? I don’t recommend that.

Reef flux and safety of use

This is my sprung’s burning bush on day 13 of fluconazole treatment (today). This is my first time treating with it in there. I took most of it out and put in a separate tank not getting treatment as I recommend above. It looks like it’s doing fine but maybe hasn’t grown as much as usual during...

    Salinity survey

35 PSU/1.026 sg is the salinity of the ocean. I doubt there’s a noticeable difference in fish/corals to dilute slightly. Like most of our water parameters, we are just trying to make it like a tropical ocean unless there’s some specific reason to deviate. For fish-only systems (no coral) people...

Reef flux and safety of use

Normally I’d agree, but bryopsis is a different beast. As far as I know nothing in the hobby really eats it and it’s difficult or impossible to remove/treat entirely manually.

Reef flux and safety of use

Fluconazole works great against bryopsis, and good against green hair algae. The first time you use it, I’d recommend just the standard 14 day course because for many people that eliminates the bryopsis, and knocks back the GHA enough to keep it under control. I don’t think GHA is “curable” but...

Tropic Marin Pro Lawsuit? Salinity Claims related

This is nuts because as far as I know TMP does this the least of the salts I’m aware of. This is just another lawyer trying to get rich off the rest of us. Class action lawsuits are never about the customers. Lawsuit settles-> lawyer gets rich-> customers get basically nothing-> salt price goes up

    Salinity survey

    35 PSU = 1.026 for me

3D printing 5 gallon ATO reservoir. Experimental.

Especially cool because you can make it the just the size and shape you want. Not clear though, could be a plus or a minus. I’d be a little worried about the chance of a leak or overall strength maybe?

    Bright Green Hammer

True. It’s not a recent issue though. When we were thinking of rules for who could request high end pieces we analyzed how many people have completed a chain- as in someone gets a frag, then shares it with at least 2 other members- a pretty low bar. But the numbers were very low. Like just a...

    EXPANSION

Wow Robert that’s big project and an amazing job at it so far. Making my back hurt looking at the before and after pics. I just hope this doesn’t divert attention from the saltwater/reef focus and expertise your team have, seems like something to watch out for. I agree I like the look of the...
