    ABC Reagents, just A reagent?

I’ve been using ABC Reagents for my Triton. One of the things I like about them is they would sell ABC packs but also A or B/C separately. Very handy since I use more A than B/C (test 4x as often). Now they (he) decided to distribute through CoralVue rather than sell direct for the pre-made...

    Thinking about switching salt

Yeah when it comes to long term maintenance, there are easy/fun things you’ll do and difficult/annoying things you won’t.

    Grounding probe usage

GFCI is required. I think we all agree on that. Moving on. Adding a Grounding probe likely has no significant additional effect, positive or negative. But negative scenarios are more likely. A small electrical leak in the tank with no grounding probe (very high resistance) will cause stray...

Mixing (German) salt - did you know?

Right. I use other salts sometimes if I have them on hand so I have to clean some then. I’m using a grey brute for mixing so I’m possibly blissfully ignorant compared to using a white brute. But either way I don’t think it matters much. My impression when I see a film of junk is that it’s more...

    Thinking about switching salt

If you are open to suggestions of other brands, I think Tropic Marin Pro is the best overall after trying several. I haven’t tried the one you mentioned though so I’m not really answering your question.

Mixing (German) salt - did you know?

I mix up Tropic Marin salt with flow and heat and leave it that way for variable amounts of time, sometimes a couple hours, sometimes a couple weeks. Sometimes I leave the heater on during storage, sometimes I don’t. I generally do leave the flow on during storage, but sometimes I don’t. I...

Where to buy MaxSpect rotor shafts?

[edit/update]- So after learning more about the current state of MaxSpect support, I wanted to update here since I went prematurely ranty above in my second post. MaxSpect support is handled by Aperture through their distribution deal. Functionally this means BRS support, which remains high...

Where to buy MaxSpect rotor shafts?

Thanks for the lead Casey. I contacted BRS customer support (they are still awesome by the way) and they were able to find the replacement part for me. They sell it, but only if you go through customer service (not on the public facing site). It’s $58 for the rotor shaft (x2 for me). Kinda...

Live Aquaria is going out of business ?

So basically they were doing the corporate equivalent of payday loans and *allegedly* were cooking the books to promise the same future paycheck multiple times. I don’t see this ending well.

Where to buy MaxSpect rotor shafts?

And as a ranty aside, when I paid the premium price for these, I thought I was getting a premium product from a premium company. Having them just be yet another Chinese company (HQ in HK, made on mainland) selling mediocre hardware with limited or no support is making me feel had. At least when...

Where to buy MaxSpect rotor shafts?

I have 2 of the previous generation (from 2023) MaxSpect Gyre XF-350 pumps. For both of them, they have intermittently been locking up recently. I did a deep clean and noticed both of the rotor shafts (the magnetic spinny thing in the middle of the motor) are breaking. One is fully broken open...

    Alternative Trident Calibration Solution

Agree. The best approach isn’t calibration solution, but to test your water manually and then calibrate to that. Several advantages.

Live Aquaria is going out of business ?

A lot of companies use bankruptcy as a legal maneuver to allow reorganization and debt restructuring without being constrained by normal rules. As opposed to because they are going away.

Coral ID - Which coral is this? Update: Montipora spongodes [for now…]

It definitely looks like what we in the club have always called Montipora Spongodes. Whether or not the monti part has been reclassified I couldn’t say, but I’m confident that’s what it is. https://www.bareefers.org/forum/threads/dbtc-montipora-spongodes.31448/

How does fish feeding translate into nutrients? N and P specifically!

Challenges in removing chloramine in RODI setup

My understanding is, if we focus on chloramine, it will process 3.500 gallons of water at a rate of 0.5 gpm flow, and yields at least 85% reduction in chloramine when the level is 3 ppm Note that if you have 2 of these blocks in a row, it’s more like at least 98% reduction.
