Beware of unusual Siphons!

Funny/annoying story.

So my peristaltic pump on my ATO died yesterday.
(Only 1 year old - Grr.)

So I took it apart a bit, to see if anything was obviously wrong.
But I did not take the tubing apart, I just pulled it off the rollers,
and put it to the side, while I poked around with the motor.
No luck, so left it to do something else.

A couple hours later, I noticed the Low-Water-Error message was on.
Checked the sump, and it was down about 10 gallons.
Rushed around in panic looking for a flood - but nothing. ?????

Finally figured it out. With the flex tubing off the rollers, there was nothing to stop a siphon.
And in my messing around, I had left the ATO tubing below water level in the sump.

So the water had gone from the sump, up 8 feet, across the ceiling, through the
pump, back down, and outside to my fresh water reservoir in the shed.
Which was now suddenly pretty full, and not very fresh.
