Do return pumps slow with age?

It really seems like mine is. I keep it clean, inside and out, so there's no build up to account for the decreased flow rate.....

Not sure of it's age as it came with the tank. It's a Rio 2500.

pipes dirty? Big killer.
impeller could be a little jacked up and not flowing as well?

Impleller and surrounding area is clean and looks good. Pipes look a little dirty, they're clear so you can see, but don't look like they impede the flow. I can give them a clean to be sure...if you can tell me how. They're 1" clear plastic tube. Or should I just replace?

The electrons get tired going back and forth so much. Switch to a DC pump.
:)

+1 on pipes.
I had that problem as well.

Bearings and impellers do wear, but I would think that usually results in locking up, not a general slowdown.

My return piping used to get restricted when I was doing kalk drip.

Or it might be time to do a water change. Old water has a hard time making uphill :D
