Looking for an article, relating pH with akalinity

I've noticed typically I see a hump in the pH as the lights turn on, then as they go off it slowly drops throughout the night, to repeat in the same fashion every day.

However, I've noticed occasionally that hump drops a bit lower (low points too) every day, and made a connection to alkalinity also dropping down (I'm currently trying to dial in the sweet spot of consumption/dosing). The other day I dosed a good amount of alk solution, and noticed the pH popped up as well over time and stayed high (and by high I'm talking about a few hundreds off the norm). Am I imagining this relationship? Or is it a decent way to do a quick test to see if my alk might be depleted a bit?

and if you care about the math and a bit more on the chemistry, this is pretty decent
