What happens after an Acro covers a frag plug?

So I have an acro frag that has completely encrusted the frag plug, however, I kept the stem on the frag plug and mounted the stem to the rocks.

So now there is a gap from where the acro has covered the frag plug and the frag plug touching the rock. What happens with the growth now? Assuming the coral can't encrust anymore, so would it begin vertical growth?

It can puddle down and cover the gap. Or will plate out and or grow up.

It will likely still try to grow, possibly even creating branches outward, when those branches touch the rock on the other side of the gap they will start to encrust at that point and puddle onto the rock locking said frag plug to the rock.

Got it...I was going to remove it and cut the plug off so its just sititng on the circular disk but seems like this is not needed

Kinda depends on the Acro...but yeah what they said

Almost every Acro I have encrust the plug and grow over it and all around it. Some won’t do that
