This is very interesting... can you think of an example in your experience??? For instance... a dozen chromis that where fine for X number of months but after X amount of time the pecking order took it's toll and they started taking each other out? ... hope that made since.

To get this guy back on the subject of Chromis I thought I'd bump this post up....
 
Jeff I think there are far too many variables to actually come up with any hard numbers on the subject. Considering chromis reach near 3" in length, ask yourself how many 2-3" (head to caudal) have you seen in aquariums, my bet is not too many.
 
I figured as much... It would be interesting to see some sort of study on the behavior caused by diffusion in regards to pecking order in a large aquarium... lets say... 360 to 600 gallons.
