Hello BAR Community,
Born in San Francisco at Letterman Hospital in the Presido back when it was still a military base, and raised in Daly City—I’ve been a Bay Area guy my whole life.
I’m a proud father navigating both joy and grief. My son Chris, from a previous relationship, passed away on October 6th, 2024. He never got to meet his little brother, Cassian, but I see so much of him in Cassian every single day. That connection stays with me—deep, constant, and emotional.Rest in Paradise son.
Life hit hard last fall. Just days before Chris passed, my wife, baby, and I were in a serious car accident—our new Audi totaled by a negligent driver, landing me in the ER. Thankfully, my wife and son were unharmed. Ten days later, while returning from bereavement leave, my wife was let go from her job— that Monday at 10 a.m., without warning. Through all that heartbreak and pain, we’re holding onto the most important thing: our health. As sad as it all seems, we believe we can face whatever life throws our way. My Ohana are my pillars.
These days, I push forward by immersing myself in work, cherishing time with family, and enjoying great food dates with my wife and close friends. Watching Cassian grow brings us so much light—he amazes us every day. He’s fascinated by aquariums and zoos, which is what led me here.
I’m new to saltwater tanks and excited to dive in—ready to channel my inner SpongeBob and soak up as much knowledge as I can from those willing to share. A saltwater tank will also be incredibly therapeutic for my wife and me, especially as we get to watch Cassian light up in amazement. The dream is to build a low-maintenance, Nemo-themed tank filled with the vibrant, calming colors of the ocean.
Looking forward to learning from all of you and hopefully adding value where I can. Grateful to be part of the BAR community.
Kind regards,
David aka Kawika
