Oops, sorry if I wasn't clear but my Mimic didn't recover from the infection. Whatever it was, it hit him fast and hard and he was gone the next day. Thanks very much for your generosity though. I really appreciate your advice and your offers to help.

I'm seeing an odd discoloration on my mimic tang -- wondering if anyone can recognize what's up with him. He seems to be maybe a little bit lower energy than usual but is still eating. It's only showing up on the one side. And the right profile, business as usual:

It looks like it's any thread that gets the "Updated" tag on it. After some of the DBTC updates there are now two full pages of old threads that show up on the "New Posts" page. Same symptom -- you can click into the posts to get them off of there, but the 'Mark All Read' button resurrects them.

Hmm, now I'm kind of confused as to what happened because the impeller looks like it's in very good shape. But when I plug it in, nothing happens at all. Just dead. I was thinking of trying to find another pump body to use this same impeller in. What kind of things can go wrong with the actual pump?

I've lost a couple of pumps in the last year, probably at least due in part to the fact that I don't do much preventative maintenance on them and they eventually seize up on me. I do a vinegar bath thing about once every six months for my return pump and maybe a little more often for powerheads...

I have the AWI Typhooon 3 and like it a lot. Never had any issues with it. I haven't tried out any others to compare against but this unit is very well-built. The filter casings are a thick plastic and everything is mounted on a heavy metal frame. But if that Spectrapure does a 1:1 waste ratio...

Interesting, my SureFlow mods don't chatter at all on startup. I have a pair of modded MJ1200s and they start up clean every time. I also have a pair of Koralia 3 and they do knock around for a second or two about half the time.

So much for that spending limit. :) Are you going with a single 40 or a pair?
