Acro growing colorful in some parts, pale in others

I've been on a bit of a journey. I had a massive infestation of dictyota macro algae that was absolutely everywhere, and zero nitrate and phosphate. I ended up reluctantly using fluconazole to nuke it, which completely wiped it out without any side effects... well until the cyano came. Then I...

    Kevin's 60 Gallon Cade Cube

Sounds like you've been talking to my poor chalice! Every couple of weeks I yank a bunch of it out and releases from the rocks quite nicely, so I've been able to keep it in check. I really like the movement it adds. I'm having larger problems with the zoas on the opposite side of the tank which...

Acro growing colorful in some parts, pale in others

I've had this piece for several months and it's been growing really well. However, half of the colony is nicely colored, and the other is super pale. Here it is up close, showing the front part of it is very pale and the back part is green and pink. Here it is from the side. White balance is...

    This Storm is Brutal

Wow glad you were able to weather this! I really have no solution except a few battery powered airstones, so will be getting an Anker SOLIX C2000 shortly to have on hand. This could keep my small system going for quite a while. You have a solar powered battery backup?

Best LPS corals for SPS-dominant tank?

I'm similarly SPS-crazed, but am a real sucker for a zoa garden, goniopora, chalice, plate corals, and pulsing Xenia, all of which I have doing very well towards the bottom and in shaded areas of my tank. I've been particularly happy with having Goni's in the lower light areas (towards the...

    Kevin's 60 Gallon Cade Cube

Here's the current state of my equipment configuration, starting with the sump. Space is at a premium in this little cube's stand! I removed the built-in shelf so I could fit the skimmer and roller mat sort of in the center of the sump. Re-routed the drain hose into the roller mat and it fits...

Would love one but not for this size of a tank. Have been thinking about a flasher wrasse though

    Kevin's 60 Gallon Cade Cube

Thanks Erin! When I broke my tank down 20 years ago, I gave my slimer, among other things, to a buddy of mine. He kept it going ever since, and last year I was able to get a frag of it back! It's like my long lost child.
