Where I shop online

- Preliminary remark: I am shopping at LFS whenever possible, and intentionally do NOT buy anything online that they typically sell -

I have not bought anything from BRS for a long time, trying to avoid them unless they have something no one else has or at the best price.

Saltwateraquarium.com seemed to be a good alternative for a one-stop shop experience, and other smaller online vendors for specific items. However, I had recently ordered a cable from them, which they shipped incorrectly, and it was a nightmare to get someone to respond to my question, and I ended up ordering from somewhere else the correct item.

Therefore, I decided to add them to my no-shopping list (where Amazon is also on).

A great alternative to BRS or Saltwateraquarium.com is the following:

For the smaller online vendors/vendors with a narrower selection, I like the following:

I ordered from them several times and never had an issue. All others had issues with shipping, cumbersome inventory searches, or items that did not interest me.

I mostly buy non-livestock from bulkreefsupply, saltwateraquarium, and Amazon. I have also bought from the other 3 mentioned in the first post and they are ok too. I’m happy to buy from local stores but they usually don’t have specifically what I’m looking for when it comes to supplies. And unless I’m already going in for something else are not nearly as convenient. I’m not basing where I buy so much on price or activism, just on convenience and getting the specific item I want easily. I realize this might not be the “cool” answer but I suspect it’s the silent majority’s honest answer.

I've been using Champion Lighting more lately since they sponsor both @Thales and Reefbum. Plus Todd is just a cool guy and always is willing to help out.

Saltwater aquarium is good too, all the freebies you can add means I never need to buy frag plugs.

BRS has such a limited catalog now that I pretty much only use it for filter replacements.

I am not perfect either. A few days ago, I re-subscribed to paramount+ for 0.99 USD per month for two months because I had to watch the new Dexter season. So activism has its limits I guess.

How do we order their products from you, say, I if I need this?

Unfortunately, being far away from you is inconvenient for you. So paying for their shipping direct is probably easier. But if you plan ahead, I'd be happy to provide you with your filter replacements when we are able to meet up. I can also bring in any of the hardware they provide.

Are you having to replace all those already?

The only thing I don't have in stock atm is the catalytic carbon cartridge. You have chloramine treatment, correct?

I'd recommend getting the bulk DI resin for long-term savings. If you want pre-packed DI cartridges for convenience, just let me know. In your system, are you going through a lot of the cation? Or primarily the anion?

I am ignorant on this- How do you store it after you open the mylar bag? I tend to buy the smaller packs (1 cartridge worth) so I don't have to worry about sealing the leftovers to avoid the media going bad. I don't know if my worry is legitimate or not though. I would love to save money on making water. Livermore water is high tds.

The bulk mylar bags I am using are resealable. 4 refills per bag. They have a 18-24 month shelf life. I am struggling with high TDS source water too, so I go through a lot of it. I actually need to change my resin tonight. But I ordered a few cases of resin to help offset the cost. I sold a bunch locally and to a few BAR members with a discount a couple months ago.

Nice! I will hit you up next time I need to re-up.
