    fun project induced headache

You can use packaging tape to dab it off. Time consuming, but it gets it off without scratches or chemicals. You can also use WD40 and a microcloth. Just clean really well with soap and water after. Sounds weird, but it works. WD40 can discolor some plastics, so might want to test a small...

Will UV Ultraviolet Light on RODI system raise water temp?

Not much power in a UV light and not enough dwell time to heat the water. Plus bulbs are expensive. I never heat my water, but I guess if one wanted to, I'd look into portable tankless or under sink water heaters. Like this https://a.co/d/bmSXpWL

    Randy’s Flock o' Reef Tanks

Plenty...the list is long. ;) Speciosas are a mystery to me still and for some reason Angry Birds always die on me. Jawdroppers never show me love. The list goes on....

    Bunch of coral dying

Bottoming out nitrates wouldn't likely cause this issue unless you went from a very, very high ppm number to zero relatively quickly. If the bottoming out happened gradually, you would likely see coral start losing color and becoming very pale over time before any tissue necrosis started. I'd...

Cupisorb removes copper and other heavy metals like zinc, nickel, cobalt, manganese and others I can't remember right now.

    Randy’s Flock o' Reef Tanks

Rainbow Splice Here's another acro that's been a test of my patience. I got this all green RRC Rainbow Splice back in October 2021 when yellow pieces that had any red streak was close to $1000, so I settled for a $200 all green piece. Here's how it's turned up since (including some...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

It's not necessarily technically difficult, but maintaining multiple sets of tanks and sitting on livestock for six weeks not being able to sell them affects cash flow and the volume you can sell quite bit. You're not interested in QT'ed inverts, but let's not knock the people that want them...

Bigfish's swim into the sea - a tank journal

But who on average normally QT inverts? It is actually a not a simple undertaking for a large facility to QT inverts for six weeks as I imagine it ties up resources limiting their sales volume. And let's be real, as it is, you can't get most hobbyists to QT for 1 day let alone six weeks. It's...

    DBTC: RR Prometheus Acropora

I see that thing still grows like a weed, :) I use to have it, but that thing just grows too fast compared to other acros.

When is the right time to add an algae scrubber?

I have always started a fuge with Chaeto the second I have livestock. It helps me keep the uglies to a minimum. But I'm kind of the opposite opinion of people on this. If nitrates and phosphates get too low, I'd prefer to dose nitrates and phosphates to where I want the levels to be and not just...

Complete Bonus/Ultra Coral List - 2024 (REVISED AS OF 2/16/25)

I’ve always thought in the back of my mind that something along this line would be fair and pretty clear how the decision was made. Now this is maybe more complex and more overkill than it needs to be, but just a thought. Each category will be scored 0-100 and you could weight each category...

Dual stage can run any combination of heaters or chillers. It is configurable per outlet if it’s heating or cooling.

    jhuynh 200gal ext peninsula

Is that a dual stage Ranco controller? Max amps on a dual stage 120V at full load is 9.8A. Each of those 1000W heaters draws around 8.3A, no? You’re looking for trouble if you’re not running that on two separate Ranco controllers and both heaters turn on at the same time.

    Lobster crab tank

I researched it a while back thinking of keeping crabs and lobsters alive to eat at home, but never did it. Look for lobster salt mix. Never used this product so don’t know for sure, but it indicates restaurants use this. https://lobsterlife.com/product/ls-40-marine-salt/

Complete Bonus/Ultra Coral List - 2024 (REVISED AS OF 2/16/25)

The problem is, people who bring really nice or (I hate to say this) expensive coral, aren’t incentivized to bring them. And right now, it doesn’t seem there’s much difference honestly to the bonus and ultra in terms of desirability. Also, I haven’t been to a swap in a long while and coming to...

Complete Bonus/Ultra Coral List - 2024 (REVISED AS OF 2/16/25)

It gets going faster after it reaches a few inches, but yes, painfully slow compared to something like a Myagi or California Tort. Cali Torts or Myagi Torts will likely have a green base on it. And for those wondering, here’s an Oregon Tort under 14,000K spectrum. Side View Top Down View

    Hands Down Best Coral Dip

I use a mix of KCl and Melafix for 10-15 minutes. I use 0.5 Tbsp of KCl and 2ml of Melafix Pond per liter of water. Will pretty much knock off most things. Still QT though. Also, I’ve seen a higher occurrence of white bugs and interestingly enough, it seems from my small amount of research that...
