Wow, 98F on the mercury! Tank looks okay. Looks like for once it's good that the AI director is flakey and didn't turn on.... Anyhow, without pictures this thread will be dull for a while, so here are some pics of some of the fish and corals I had in the UK. Sorry for the photo bomb...

    Rob's Addiction

Hello - New forum, new tank journal. I moved to the Bay Area on the last day of April this year from the UK with my family. I've been keeping marines on and off for 20 years (for the last 8 years I have continuously had at least one reef tank). Recently I had several marine aquaria in the UK: A...

    EnderTurtle's 40 gallon breeder LPS

I've cured live rock before using bleach (I actually did it one rock at a time in a running reef with SPS with no ill effects). Unfortunately in this current case I can't cure, as the tank came with fish and some brown coral and is too small to cope with uncured rock. It was more the scrubbing...

    EnderTurtle's 40 gallon breeder LPS

Nice write up. I picked up a tank the day after the shop tour. It is riddled with every algae under the sun, including hair algae, so I will need to follow your advice :). Can we see some recent tank photos, please?

Nice tank and useful write-up!

    Swayds Big Boy Reef

If you want a super reliable doser, I'd recommend the GHL Profilux. Mine never skipped a beat in 7 years, whereas the cheap unbranded one (essentially a bubble magus, but without the brand sticker) stuck on twice - not good for the corals when that happens!

FREE RAFFLE: Brand New Kessil 360W-E LED Light

Both pages liked. Blastomussa are my favorites and this one is pretty sweet.

    Hi from the UK

That's interesting - thanks. Any idea what makes it non-viable? I guess there can't be much farm runoff at Pacifica. Is the SF sewage pumped straight into the sea? Anyway, touched down at SFO today, I'll hit the DMV and open a bank account tomorrow, then start my new job on Monday. It's been a...

    Hi from the UK

Out of interest, do many folks use natural sea water in the area? I live in the middle of England at the moment, so NSW wasn't viable, but I really like the idea of living in Pacifica/Montara/Half-moon Bay and using NSW.

    Hi from the UK

Yep. I only packed equipment that can work on 110 to 240 V / 50 to 60 Hz. That is, except my skimmer for which i'll need to find an alternative needle-wheel pumps in the US. I really like my skimmer and it is new, I so wanted to keep it. Worst comes to worst, I can run the needle wheel pumps...

    Hi from the UK

Well my aquariums are all sold, stock has gone, house is sold and the international shippers just packed my house up a few hours ago. I only kept my tunzes, LEDs, reactors and skimmer. Unfortunately no new aquarium until I buy a house :(. I was hoping to take part in Cal Reef Co grow-out comp...

Any experience with the "Impossible" Goniopora/Alveopora Corals?

I have never tried the green G. stokesii, but I had both a goniopora (maybe djboutiensis) and alveopora for several years in the tank I just shut down. They grew very well (the goni probably grew to about 20 times the number of polyps in 3 years (skeleton went from roughly a thumbnail size to a...

    Hi from the UK

There are company buses from caltrain and Milbrae BART. I actually walked from caltrain to my interview, though. Bad idea walking in a tie and woolen suit, as it was unseasonably hot last week. I think I must have looked like a drowned rat! The building also just had to be at the top of a small...

    Hi from the UK

Schools: Yep, We have a two year old and and a 3 month old. The schools seem pretty good all over though. Tech job: Sort of, but not computers. I don't want to say where until I've actually started!

    Hi from the UK

Ideally, for a short commute, near South San Francisco or maybe even a bit further south, as most of the suitable vacancies for my wife are in the Palo Alto to Santa Clara area.

    Hi from the UK

Unfortunately I had no say in the matter. My wife is from Mountain View and wanted to move back after 11 years in the UK. At least there is plenty of work and more importantly, nice corals.

    Hi from the UK

Okay - got a couple of job offers last week and probably moving to the Bay Area end of April / start of May (scarily quick), so I've paid my dues to become a supporting member :) Looks like we'll be living in a cardboard box until my wife also gets a job though - ouch, those are high house...
