    Beginner reefer seeking advice

Hey reefers. I think I need another round of advice. My coral started rapidly dying 2 days ago, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. On the Discosomas, and green hairy mushrooms, I am noticing these white fleshy pustules appear. The Zoanthids have closed up very tight for over a day. The...

Hey Reefers - Just an update here on the tank situation. Been getting a lot of help from all of you, but especially big thanks to Will @Turkeysammich. He and I met up and dispatched any visible aiptasia for now, knowing they'll come back. Also gave me some starter corals. I'll be sure to give...

So here’s what I’m thinking. I was planning to leave the Aiptasia in the tank for a few days to se if the berghia eats it. (Would rather give it back to my friend rather than kill it) If the Aiptasia isn’t eaten in a few days, I’ll manually remove it with tweezers. Would that work? Also 2...

Got it. He’s a pretty small guy. Maybe slightly under an inch long. I want to keep him alive so I can potentially give him back to my friend. I’m pretty sure he will eat Aiptasia because that was the reason he was originally purchased but not sure how big of an Aiptasia appetite he has. There...

I’m not exactly sure what it is! Ryan got it from a guy who said it would eat the aiptasia. Didn’t intend to give it to me but it was hidden in the rock. Sure looks like a berghia when I google it

Hey Reefers! I have been contemplating all of your advice the past 2 weeks and just set up my tank today! My buddy @ryanraff helped me by giving me about 5 gallons of cycled water and a rock from his tank. Hopefully this speeds up the cycling time for my 12 gallon tank. There are already living...

Thanks guys. Appreciate all of the different ideas! I’m seriously considering @B the Nano Reefer’s idea about the long skinny tank. It would fit perfectly in the area and the lights mounted to the bottom of the cabinets would leave plenty of space for access. Any suggestions on what other gear...

Thats a good point. I’ll That’s a good point. I’ll play around with the That’s a very intriguing idea. I have to stop by the condo tomorrow to make sure I have 3 feet in length. How easy would the wire management be? As a total beginner, I’ve been intimidated by all of the parts and am worried...

Is it realistic to pull the tank out 6 or so inches when I need to do water changes and cleaning? I know water tanks are heavy but I figured I could carefully pull it forward. My sink would be right next to the tank which would make things a little easier.

Yeah, I just remodeled my condo and think it would look good if I could fit it under the cabinets. Only problem is there’s only 16.75 inches of clearance. Are you aware of any other tanks that might work in that space? The fluval 13.5 would work with the stock light but I heard it wasn’t great.

Including the light, what is the total height of the tank? I'm thinking about putting the nano tank in my kitchen in an alcove where there are ceiling mounted cabinets above. I've got 16 inches of clearance for the height and realized the biocube is 17.5 inches high. Seems like the Fluval evo...

With regards to the Fluval Evo 13.5, I see that one is an all in one and is longer than the bio cube. Longer is better right? I was reading that fish prefer the horizontal distance more than vertical height. I see it also doesn't have an automated timer for the day night cycle. Is that a pretty...

Thank you all for the advice! Didn't expect this many replies! :) I'm pretty dead set on a tank size in the range of 10-20g due to limited space, but not on the model! I like the sleek look of the Innovative Marine Fusion 15 tank and I see it's about 3 times cheaper than the bio cube. Is that...

Thank you Ryan! Hi all! Glad to be part of the community. A little bit about myself - I'm a 29 year old living in San Francisco. This will be my first time setting up a saltwater aquarium but I do have lots of experience taking care of other pets (hamsters, chameleons, praying mantises, birds...
