Hawaii (Insider) Travel Recommendations (for Reefers)

Most of the islands gets pretty dull after 8pm. There is no night life in maui. Still worth the visit but 1 or 2 days max. Never been to the big island. For Oahu, get yourself some snorkling and flash light and you can hit sharks cove for some night time snorkling (there is an enclosed...

    Losing my goni’s, need help

was gonna say... time for a ICP test of the trace elements. I have sps in my tank but the biggest trace element depletion for me over the last year of ICP testing is flouride and strontium. There are a few others but its not as much as the depletion of those 2. Now the problem is how much...

    Triton method discussion

Sounds like the moonshiner method. Basically no water change, ICP for trace element. I guess everyone is doing that but with different names.

    Free Zoas

I believe these are all king midas? The red ones I got are still stuck on a rock. If I ever get them off OR if they start expanding off the rocks and onto my bare bottom tank, those will be free too. In fact they are already starting to spread so I will probably have more zoas soon in red.

Coral IDs for the upcoming swap

I've got a frag on a plug. If your in san Francisco I can give ya a piece to test. Is the thought that if they were not compatible that they will kill each other? I've got the colony growing against a WWC yellow tip and they seem to get along! I thought they were gonna marry each other...

Coral IDs for the upcoming swap

Well I didn't really want to have this "argument" so lets get back to the topic of this thread which is ID'ing corals. The swap is over but i'm just bringing this up because the orange creamsicle sparked my interest and I looked it up and it looks a lot like the one I have. Just wanted...

    Reef 3D printing request thread

Thought I'd post this if anyone needs to prep for the next swap. I didn't have any foam to float the frag and I didn't want to just throw the frag and plug into the specimen container so I made this last night for the frag swap. basically its a stand to hold the plug in the center upright...

Coral IDs for the upcoming swap

Sorry but for those that are this uptight about naming corals, sorry to break it to you but unless theres some kind of certification, DNA, whatever, you just have no clue what you got unless you personally got it straight from the source. I've got a fairly grown out coral and I'd just like to...

    favorite ICP company

I don't bother with water change at all. I'm on moonshiners. I adjust based on ICP-MS test from moonshiners. I find that water changes radically changes the trace elements levels in the tank (water change does not properly replinish the trace elements.). Without water changes, I know the...

Coral IDs for the upcoming swap

uploading pix of the still unidentified coral. I bought an orange filter so hopefully this one is a better shot. Definitly matches what I see with my eyes more. Could use an ID on this one

Coral IDs for the upcoming swap

ok a few more frags for id. These are too small to frag. right now. I have an idea on first one (it was a super super slow grower. what you see was 1 year of growth at the top of the tank.)

Coral IDs for the upcoming swap

Heck yes I am trying to get into the ultra / bonus rounds and I want to make sure what I'm bringing qualifies. Unfortunately when I buy corals I dont track names of anything. I just buy what looks nice to me after seeing the main colony (for growth pattern and color).. But more importantly I...
