Free 3 frags of pink and gold Zoas

@iCon Hahaha! You want them? They are a great beginner zoa and good for someone. And they look ok if you like very blue lights due to fluorescing.

MH / LED usage in 2016

Totally agreed. I get the sense that the "growout" method for coral shops is from local growers that bring them in.

MH / LED usage in 2016

@Enderturtle : I feel that the stores are not really in the business of maintaining long-term growth. They just need the corals to look nice enough in the next 2 weeks before they are sold (or at least maintain enough color to be sold). I feel that is generally very different from hobbyist who...

    Micro Top-off Reservoir

@rygh, pixel is only running DI. But yes, for RODI, it is best to have one of those shutoff valves. I find they take a while to fully turn off, since they are pressure/membrane based devices.

MH / LED usage in 2016

Cost wise, I think MH add up due to the additional need for fan for evaporative cooling or running chiller. Both add up. Also with T5, you can turn off different bulbs to get dawn/dusk effects. This also saves you a bit of power.

    Micro Top-off Reservoir

I still need to do an automated top-off reservoir. I like your method. Where do you live again? In Walnut Creek, TDS was in the 40s. In Berkeley it is pretty low. I have heard in South Bay it is very high. I rodi'd in Walnut Creek, have not in Berkeley, and if I lived in South Bay, I'd...

Why to add nitrates to maintain Redfield ratio

In case you guys have not come across this article... It is a great read for SPS growers. http://www.reef2reef.com/threads/help-my-sps-are-paling-and-i-dont-know-what-to-do.210035/ General summary: -Keep Nitrates above Phosphates -GFO strips out more than just phosphates (minerals, etc) and...

How would you plumb a seperate fuge

My previous tank setup I did not build the correct drain system. Since then, I have built it correctly on my new system. And I will say... It is quiet! I used herbie overflow drain. My MP40s were the loudest thing and so I took those out and put Jebao pumps. They help "heat" my water, provide...

How would you plumb a seperate fuge

Herbie and bean animal silent overflow drain designs rely on "tuned" drain flow rate. They use at minimum, two drain pipes, one is a siphon and the other runs a trickle flow (and/or as a backup safety drain). The siphon drain is throttle down to the nominal return pump flow rate. Note: a...

How would you plumb a seperate fuge

Yes, that is what I would do. Every reefer has their preferred way of doing things. For me, yes, pump from skimmer to fuge/macro growler and then drain back to skimmer area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How would you plumb a seperate fuge

That is what I would do. You can pump from any where in your sump and return it anywhere, but I prefer keeping my return area minimal. If you are just doing a macro algae tank to grow chaeto, and NOT pods, then leering your "fuge" drain back to skimmer area is fine. You don't worry about pods...

How would you plumb a seperate fuge

Don't T the drain if you want a quiet drain. Bean animal and herbie overflow drains need a full siphon and a trick flow pipes that do not merge and usually it is best they go straight down to sump. I would run an extra pump to the fuge. The pump should be in the initial drain section where your...

[Feb 8, 2014] 2014 BAR Members Only Frag Swap (Hayward, CA)

Can we make sure people TRY to use CLEAR plastic containers? I know some people in past swaps have used styrofoam containers. Not that great because people end up opening them and/or what not. Just a suggestion. Ron
