Bugs can take many months or apparently even years @H2OPlayar before they start noticeably affecting or killing corals, depending on how many bug-predators you have in the tank and maybe other factors I don’t understand. I wonder if other factors, like temp and iodine levels, can affect how fast...

    SPS Pest ID

Thanks that’s interesting! I read “marine mites represent the oldest known extant animal lineage that secondarily invaded the sea, with the marine turtles being the second oldest such lineage.” I wonder if anyone else has come across them and if they noticed any effects on fish or corals...

    SPS Pest ID

Ok I haven’t seen this one before. It’s got 8 legs, but doesn’t look acro spiders I’ve seen. Kind of has the round shell and short curved legs of a coral pest but the 8 legs is throwing me off. Anyone know?

Not sure from your pic if this one is the same as below bug?

The thing in top center with two dots looks similar to an ostropod.

Some of those little oval black specs in your pic could be black bugs. I wouldn’t be able to tell if they’re bugs or just detritus with my naked eye or an unmagnified phone photo. Here are some black bugs after a dip: the large clear bugs in the pic are small copepods. Black bugs are circled...

    Randy's Red Sea Reefer 250

I’m convinced Heart of the Ocean is a hoeksemai now given the way it’s growing for you. Hoeks take a long time to take off and don’t seem to like low nutrients so hopefully you’ve got or are dosing nitrates?

That’s so cool with the acros in back and torches down front. And I like that you removed the tank backing for a deeper impression.

BAR-B-Q - 6-26 Sunday-Structural Aspects of Aquariums Tank talk - Potluck and grill

Wish I could make it, I’ll be out of town.

    Requesting permission to be lazy

No, you will need to add some citric acid and then the coralline will either melt or soften up so it can be wiped away. However if you do an angelfish/discus low pH tank that will happen with time anyway.

Just found sand in the seal of my RSR250...

This was perfectly level as far as I can tell - just filling with water created these stresses.

    Interesting article on coral microbes

Just found sand in the seal of my RSR250...

Ok y’all, crazy idea but, should we invite someone to give a guest talk on this topic? I found for example this Solidworks talk which included an aquarium force model by Alon Finkelstein. If he is willing to expand his model to the various unlevel-flat, unlevel-uneven, etc rimless aquarium...

Just found sand in the seal of my RSR250...

We have a super clay-ey soil. I will keep an eye on whether the tanks move back by the end of the summer when things get really dry again :)

Just found sand in the seal of my RSR250...

All of my tanks have come unlevel since I installed them with those plastic brown shims under the stands. They stayed level about the first year but now water lines are visually unlevel. One is a RSR, other 2 are custom tanks with aluminum stands which sit on concrete in my garage, which came...

Just found sand in the seal of my RSR250...

I’m wondering if anyone would be willing to sign a petition to Res Sea (and the other tank manufacturers, to be fair) asking them to release their tank failure statistics. I think all manufacturers should do this so we know what risks we’re taking by putting a tank in our homes. I suspect that...

    Fathead anthias

I’m waiting for mine to get bigger before trying them in my display too.

    Fathead anthias

Wow that’s a fathead anthia! His color looks really good too. I imagine they have a good varied diet at Steinhart. I wonder if I should soak the mysis or brine in vitamins now and then to help them maintain their color. I’ve had one since Sept ‘21 and two more since Mar ‘22.

Check out this build I am working on...

There’s so many fish in there it sorta looks like @H2OPlayar tank and he feeds heavily. What are you feeding this tank @robert4025?
