Texas State Aquarium kills all fish in tank with pest treatment

"The aquarium said it tried the treatment after struggling to eliminate the parasites, which were described as part of the Trematoda class of parasitic flatworms." Looks like they tried some kind of flatworm treatment. The LA Times has more info on which specific internal flatworm they were...

Zoa ripped in half and still alive.

zoas are by far the most fickle things I've ever tried to grow, and very unforgiving in most cases.

    Reef Hobbyist 40B

Ok how the heck were you able to remove the sump? I have all this crap all over and wired up. It would be easier to redirect the flow of the amazon than to take my sump out.

    Phosphate test levels

thanks for the clarification! @Nav - disregard what I said then. @jonmos75 - you know, I could have sworn I read somewhere in either the manual or online, that mentioned the use of both cuvettes. I do have a super old checker, maybe I read it incorrectly somewhere. Though, that begs the...

    Phosphate test levels

wait, can you clarify which concept that you're surprised I don't get different results? I always get different results, but they rarely vary more than a hundredth of a unit.

    Phosphate test levels

Don't use new reagents, just use the same two vials you have, just re-run the test again. Ie don't mix a new batch each time. I perform #1 kinda. The second vial is included so that you can have the tank water mixed with reagent already. I just do the test with two vials of tank water, one with...

    Phosphate test levels

Nav, I agree with all of the inputs, but have you tried doing the same test more than once with the same vial? I do at least two or three tests, and average the results.

    Saltwatersig's 120 gallon journey

Is this shades of fall?! jeez, i've been looking for something like this. I'd be very interested in a small frag!! I really appreciate the dual pics you took. It really helps with putting together the true color of your tank in my mind. How do you prevent glare & reflection from your lights...

    SPS STNing, any ideas?

fyi, to keep my Mg levels up, I usually dose 1/3 cup of Mg into my freshly mixed batch of 10g salt water before the water change. Your mileage may vary but it's worked well for me, and Randy Holmes wrote an article about dosing Mg: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-07/rhf/ More recently, I...

    SPS STNing, any ideas?

I personally think you should start with Alk first, but that's just from my experience. Mg, calcium, bacteria, nitrates/phosphates has never been a problem for me with SPS even when they were swinging toward good and bad ranges. I just also noticed your PH. I don't know if 8.4 is bad, but I was...

    SPS STNing, any ideas?

My Alk is at least 9. I recently had an Alk swing that slowly went down to 8 and a few of my corals experienced STN. I noticed it first on a few of the montiporas. After it took me a whole month to figure out how much to dose, the STN stopped when I reached 9 KH. I goofed and entered in the...

    Leemar or Cadlight

Leemar tanks usually have very high quality silicon work between the panels. You should be able to run (scratch) your nail from the bottom corner to the top corner and not sctrach/encounter any silicon. The cadlights tanks I've seen, will not be 100% uniform in the silicon application.

    Sand Bed vs. Barebottom

I have a barebottom You can always get things to grow over a bare bottom. It's not fast nor easy, but it can be done. You have a few options if you don't want live sand: - starboard, which many people do, in order to help get things to attach to it. The downside is that you'll get stuff that...
